'The Vampire Diaries': New big bad will steal focus from Damon's drama

Damon Salvatore will be at the center of some major drama on "The Vampire Diaries" later tonight. The vampire will need to figure out how to handle the latest mess he has made involving Elena Gilbert. On March 26, Spoilers Guide shared two sneak peeks for tonight's episode, "The Vampire Diaries" episode 5x17 titled "Rescue Me." Ian Somerhalder is featured in both of the clips.
The first sneak peek shows Elena and Damon in a classroom waiting on a meeting on Jeremy. Elena isn't sure why Damon is there, and it leads to an interesting conversation about the night they spent together following their break up. The pair had a hot moment together, and Elena now feels uncomfortable.
The second sneak peek shows Damon drowning his sorrows in alcohol at the Mystic Grill. Tyler and Matt poke at him a bit, and he gives a bit too much information about his night with Elena. He can't talk to Stefan about it after all. That conversation would be even more awkward than the talk he had with Elena about it.
There will be more to the episode than Damon and Elena's current mess though, according to Latino Post. Fans will meet the new big bad. Markos will finally be revealed. He is the leader of the the travelers, and he has been teased as the new villain for weeks now. Fans will finally get to see him when Stefan is held hostage by the group.
