Fifty Shades of Gray fans are still waiting to hear about casting choices, and they'll have to wait awhile longer. The script is almost finished,
but without a script and a director, no actor is going to sign on to a
role. But without a doubt, producers have been scouring Hollywood
looking for the perfect Christian and Ana, trying to decide who to audition. Fan favorites for Christian have always been Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, and Henry Cavill. But only one of them currently has a huge hit film in theaters. That's Henry with Man of Steel. And gather round your whips and chains, ladies, because that means one thing.
Henry has definitely moved to the top of the short list for the Christian role. Says Celeb Dirty Laundry:
BUT. Henry. Big Sigh. He is way more manly than either Ian or Matt. Ian reminds me of a young Rob Lowe. Very pretty. I don't see Christian as pretty. He's gotta have a dangerous vibe going. Henry has that.
At any rate, I know fans are getting sick of this ridiculous wait, but you want your movie done right, right? And the reality is, Hollywood casts who they think can "open" a movie. Henry has just proven he can -- with a little help from Superman. None of the others have.
If you ask me, Henry's got the role in the bag if he wants it -- unless they offer it to Will Smith first. Hey, don't freak out, they offer everything to Will Smith first.

E.L. James, the author of Fifty Shades of Grey, still retains some creative control and she’s always been very vocal about her support for Henry in the role of Christian Grey. It’s fitting really, since the novels started as Twilight fan fiction, and Stephenie Meyer originally wrote Twilight with Henry Cavill in mind for Edward. So Henry loses out on Edward, but maybe he'll snag Christian. If he even wants it. However, with the right script and director, I can't see too many actors turning this part down, even with the S&M vibe. If done right, the movie could be the new 9 1/2 Weeks and a little sex and sizzle didn't hurt Mickey Rourke's career. (His plastic surgery though ... that's another story.) But having just done a superhero film might mean he doesn't want to take a chance on doing raunchy sex scenes and getting typecast.
