The seventh season of The Vampire Diaries will be the first Elena-less season and a lot has changed in the upcoming series.
Everyone knows that Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) was - is - the love of Damon Salvatore's (Ian Somerhalder) life, and with her in an enchanted sleep for the next 60 years or so, while Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) is alive, Damon will not be in a good place.
The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Caroline Dries has revealed that in the upcoming season 7, Damon would be drinking himself crazy as he tries to deal with Elena's 'loss'.
Though fans have been clamoring for Damon and Bonnie to get together - especially with Elena gone - The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec hinted that they might eventually get together, Damon still has to deal with life without Elena, moving on with life without Elena, thinking of what he would want to do.
The relationship between Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) is another storyline that fans are excited about, but since this is The Vampire Diaries, there's really no easy road to true love, as Plec revealed that in the upcoming season 7, the couple will be facing something that might strain and will definitely test their relationship. Plec also revealed that this 'curveball' will be seen around the sixth or seventh episode of the season.
For those who are still not over the loss of Elena (who is?!), Nina Dobrev did give a beautiful and heartfelt tribute to her character and the show as she accepted the Choice TV Actress: Sci-fi/Fantasy award at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, saying, "The last few months have been a pretty big change for me. Change. It's a scary word or at least, I used to think that, because it meant new beginnings. New beginnings of a future that was unknown.
"But change is necessary, to grow and to learn, and to better yourself, because everything in life comes to an end. As this chapter of my life comes to an end, I look back on it with a grateful heart, and I smile. Just like my character Elena I started the show as a young girl, and together we grew up. We've grown up and over the last six years, we've become women.
"Those were six incredible years that I've had the pleasure of sharing with all you guys. I mean, we wouldn't be here without you, I wouldn't be here without you. And I wouldn't be here without Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. They changed my life with this role. Sorry. Four roles. But yeah, so thank you guys. I love you. Remember change is coming. Hold on and enjoy the ride. It's going to be fun."
