'The Vampire Diaries' news: Executive Producer spills the beans on seventh season

"The Vampire Diaries" ended its previous season in a sad note, as fans had to say goodbye to the show's protagonist – Elena. While long-time viewers of the show are without a doubt still reeling from the loss, the question in everybody's minds is how the show would progress without its lead star. Thankfully, the cast and crew of the show have since spilled details about the return of "The Vampire Diaries."
"The Vampire Diaries," which first premiered almost five years ago in 2009, is a vampire television series based on the novels of L.J. Smith of the same name. The show initially followed Elena Gilbert as she got entangled with the supernatural after falling in love with vampire, Stefan Salvatore.
Executive Producer, Caroline Dries, has revealed that in the upcoming season seven, Damon would turn to his destructive side, drinking himself to death in order to forget losing Elena. According to Dries, Damon's actions would take a toll on his relationship with Stefan.
She said, "Damon needs to go and unwind after losing Elena, in the only way Damon can, but he and Stefan are in a good place. But Stefan will make a decision in the premiere that Damon is not cool with, so that will instantly pit them against each other."
Although the executive producer didn't give out any clue as to whether the brothers will finally patch things up in this season, she assured that no matter what comes their way, their brotherhood will still prevail.
"A lot of the season will be about them working together or working directly against each other. At the end of the day, it's their brother bond that's going to win out. But every episode is really about what they want, and sometimes that's the same and other times they have polar opposite wants," she stated.
