When we talked with Ian Somerhalder and the rest of The Vampire Diaries
cast at Comic-Con back in July, they previewed how the series was
returning to its darker, sexier roots in Season 7, the show's first
without Nina Dobrev's Elena. The series will return to CW on October 8.
Executive producer Caroline Dries previously told TVLine that Enzo (Michael Malarkey) will also be featured more prominently this season. Specifically, Executive Producer Julie Plec revealed that Damon (played by actor Ian Somerhalder) would be coping with Elena's loss by doing what he knows best: drinking bourbon. His character will also attempt to build a relationship with his mother. Additionally, in season 7, fans will witness another mystery involving the Salvatore brothers.
While Damon and Bonnie deal with their issues, Caroline will be in danger at home. The show feels like it's still Vampire Diaries, but there's this level of maturity to it now. She was previously in a relationship with Elena's brother Jeremy and much of the future discussions in relation to her character are about the potential for a new romantic relationship.
It does sound confusing, but it does sound like the season will need both timelines to explain the place where Damon and Stefan end up in the furthest timeline.
Wesley teased that Caroline will be able to sort out her life pretty quickly following the painful experience of losing her mom, Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) in the previous season.
Speaking of murder, Enstarz shared that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 might feature Damon butting heads with the heretic family of his mother, Lily. She has a lot going on in her brain; she has different loyalties.
But after being a part of more than one triangle which did cause a rift for the brothers, Lily's plans might not work out the way she hopes. She's trying to also combat the heretics and Lily and she's very involved in that drama.
We'll break the amuse-bouche-sized, but still delicious, deets down bit by bit with some pictorial accompaniment so you can really sink your teeth into it.
According to the report, the cast teasing Nina Dobrev's possible return to "The Vampire Diaries" is allegedly an indication that everyone knew from the start that it would be hard for the actress to land new movies and TV shows just like that.
"The last few months have been a big change for me", she said.
