As much as we respect her decision, Nina Dobrev broke our hearts when she decided to leave The Vampire Diaries after five years as the central character. And, with Season 7 looming in the near future, we’re wondering if there’s any hope for her return.
The more important question here, though, is if she’d even be welcome back on the show. Luckily it sounds like, should she ever decide to come back, The CW would be OK with it.
“We would have loved Nina to stay,” Mark Pedowitz, the president of the network, said back at the network’s Television Critics Association panel. “She did a great job for the six years she was on the show. She is welcome back anytime she wants to come back.”
Us viewers know Elena Gilbert’s storyline was left completely open for Nina to potentially awake from her semi-eternal slumber. Kai Parker put a spell on Elena which tied her life to that of BFF witch Bonnie Bennett and made it impossible for the two to co-exist.
We’ve long suspected this plot twist was made so that Elena could return in the series finale and reunite with Damon Salvatore to give a last one-two punch to our shipper hearts.
The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premieres Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
