The Season 6 finale of The Vampire Diaries
saw Damon Salvatore forced to choose whether to save Elena from a
sleeping curse or to save Bonnie's life. Having chosen Bonnie, will he
be able to move on come Season 7? Read on to find out what executive
producer Caroline Dries had to say
With Elena trapped in a
magic-induced coma for the next 60 years (totally normal), fans of The
Vampire Diaries can't help but wonder if original bad boy Damon is about
revert back to his old ways. Remember that devilishly handsome vampire
from the first few seasons, that did whatever he wanted and didn't care
who he hurt? Actor Ian Somerhalder, who plays him, teased that
viewers will see the volatile, scary, dark Damon from Seasons 1 and 2
return when Season 7 premieres this fall. The actor revealed that Damon
will basically turn into an all-around hot mess as he struggles to cope
with the fact that he will not be with Elena for a long, long time. For fans who are hoping to see Damon seek comfort in the arms of Bonnie, it doesn't look like that's going to happen either. Viewers can expect to see both Bonnie and Damon have underlying resentment towards each other next season, but with the arrival of Lily's new Heretic family, will Damon find a new woman to take his mind off Elena?
According to executive producer Caroline Dries, the answer is a firm no. Dries revealed to TV Guide:
"He's not ready to hook up; let's be clear about that! He's drinking
and having a wild time, but he is wildly affected by the loss of Elena.
He's never going to not be about Elena, so this first chapter is life
after Elena. He's trying to struggle with, how do I do right by Elena
and still be myself?" As for Elena, she will remain a "presence" in the upcoming season. Dries explained: "Even
though Nina [Dobrev] is gone, Elena is in the ether and we have a way
of including her in the storylines without actually including her." Hmm. We're intrigued. While Damon may not be ready to hook up just yet, Dries promised tons of bromance in Season 7, and that we cannot wait to see, especially between the notoriously difficult Salvatore brothers.
