The Vampire Diaries Season 7: Caroline Dries teases Damon vs Enzo

The Vampire Diaries executive producer Caroline Dries recently revealed that there will be tons of bromance in Season 7, but she also shared that viewers will see Damon and Enzo on opposing sides. Find out what's in store for the former pals in the upcoming season
We like to think we're fairly used to The Vampire Diaries' twists and turns here at melty, but we surely weren't the only ones surprised to find out that it was Lily who turned Enzo into a vampire back in 1903. After learning that Lily did not turn him and then abandon him like he had believed, Enzo now feels a strange loyalty towards Mama Salvatore, making things a bit awkward between him and his old pal Damon. Season 6 ended with Enzo helping Lily to find her lost Heretic family, and viewers can expect to see Lily's Heretic children wreaking havoc in Mystic Falls at the start of the upcoming season. As for Lily's relationship with her real children, Stefan and Damon, her devotion to her new family will definitely create tension with her sons, with showrunner Julie Plec teasing a lot of Salvatore family drama in store for Season 7. Executive producer Caroline Dries recently spoke with Seat42F and explained: "[Stefan and Damon] feel like [Lily] has this whole other family. Because Enzo is like a free-agent and Lily's got her heretic family, and they're like: "What's going on here?" There's a real "us vs. them" mentality and the Heretics are the bad guys - and Lily and Enzo are friends with the bad guys."
As for Damon and Enzo, all the new changes and happenings in Mystic Falls are really going to take a toll on their friendship. Dries revealed: "They have had a really deep past where they have gone through some real dramatic experiences. Last season Enzo was all lovey-dovey with reuniting with Lily and Damon was caught up with his drama with Elena and put on his blinders with his friends. So this season they will have scenes where they'll be like: "Hey, what's going on?" or "Dude, what's up with you?" Twenty-two episodes is a lot, so there is time for them to come back as friends. But they are going to start off a little friction-filled moving forward." Enzo was first introduced in Season 5 when it was revealed that Damon and Enzo were both being held as prisoners and test subjects by the Augustines, a secret society that experimented on vampires. Not even Stefan knew that Damon had been trapped for five years and Damon never talked about it, because in order to escape he had to betray Enzo and leave him to die. Ever since his introduction Enzo has been a bit of a troublemaker, but he's never really been one of the main villains. Looks like this could all change with the addition of the Heretics. Will Enzo side with the new big bads, or will he choose to stick with his friends? Fans will have to wait to see what he decides when The Vampire Diaries returns October 8. But wait, good news: despite the troubles ahead in store for Damon and Enzo, Dries also promised tons of bromance in Season 7.
