Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder may be happily married but that does not mean that the "Twilight" star wants Nina Dobrev hanging around her husband. The latter was reportedly offered to return to "The Vampire Diaries", but had to turn it down out of respect for Reed.
CW executives have always known that Dobrev would soon return to the supernatural drama and reprise her role as Elena. When the actress left, she claimed that she wanted to focus on her career as a movie star.
However, it seems like things are not turning the way she hoped for. It was said that the actress has been rejected in multiple roles, making her wonder if she made the right decision of leaving "TVD."
The showrunners reportedly offered her a chance to return, believing that the fans will want to see more of her and Somerhalder in season 7. The outlet also pointed out that several cast members, in different interviews, have hinted that Dobrev will be coming back soon.
Eventually, Dobrev decided to turn down the offer. As much as the actress was allegedly desperate for work, Dobrev claims that she would rather spend time auditioning for small roles than work with her ex-boyfriend.
As reported by the International Business Times, Reed is still hurting from Dobrev and Somerhalder winning the Best Kiss Award at the recent Teen Choice Awards. The publication speculated that the reason why Somerhalder was a no-show at the event was because his wife actually banned him from attending. Reed was reportedly worried that the fans may ask them to recreate the smooch if they won the award.
Meanwhile, Somerhalder claimed that he had no issues with Dobrev returning to "The Vampire Diaries." Speaking to Melty, the actor said that he is actually looking forward to Elena and Damon reuniting.
"The way it was done was great," he said, speaking of the season 6 finale. "The way it was done was actually incredible, because it allows people to know that she's still there... Elena's not dead."
