The possibility of Nina Dobrev's return to "The Vampire Diaries" is very slim to none as the actress who plays Elena allegedly refused to work with ex, and now Nikki Reed's husband, Ian Somerhalder.
According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, the producers of the CW series actually offered Nina Dobrev the chance to reprise her role as Elena but she balked at the possibility of working with Ian Somerhalder again.
"The CW kept Nina's role as Elena on 'The Vampire Diaries' open for Dobrev, so she could make a return," it said. "Producers knew Nina would get a reality check and discover that it isn't easy to make the transition from television star to movie star, and cashed in the possibility Dobrev and her character would come back to TVD."
But Ian Somerhalder seemed to have no problem with Nina Dobrev returning to "The Vampire Diaries," and Nikki Reed's husband in fact praised the way her exit was handled.
He told Melty, "The way it was done was great. The way it was done was actually incredible, because it allows people to know that she's still there... she's not dead. In seventy years or however long Bonnie lives, Elena will resurface at some point, although we'll be very old when that happens."
But Ian Somerhalder also said that the events at "The Vampire Diaries" will be just as exciting even if Nina Dobrev won't be returning as Elena in the CW hit series.
"We're actually very excited about telling this story. Mystic Falls without Elena Gilbert is going to be very different," Nikki Reed's husband added.
"We want to go back to that Season 1 and Season 2 of storytelling... I think that the last scene in the last episode that you see is truly a depiction of what this next season's going to be."
