Vampire Diaries Season 5: The Writing Process Has Begun

The final episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 4 only aired a few weeks ago, yet we’ve already fallen into a hiatus depression so deep, not even the lure of a kiss from Damon could pull us out of it. (Okay, we lie. It totally could.)
Not surprisingly, we’ve been clamoring to get our hands on any juicy tidbits from Season 5, but it’s been a bit hard considering not a single script has been completed!

Good news, though, TVD fans — the writers are back in action and we’re sure to have all the scoop before you know it!

On Monday, June 3, executive producer Julie Plec took to Twitter the confirm the exciting news: “Tomorrow: week 1 of TVD writers room. Did @carolinedries, @Young_Brian et al miss me like I missed them or am I co-dependent & delusional?” she joked.

To get a better idea of what goes on in the writing room, the people over at CarterMatt.com have broken down the process...

“One of the earliest things that the writers all work together on is establishing a story for the overall season (or at least an arc of around 10-13 episodes), and then figuring out just where everything fits into place. This strategy is a way in which to ensure that there are overall ideas put into place before individual scripts — that way there is not some sort of need after the fact to alter or change things up beyond just some minor shifts here and there. While specific people may write drafts of each scripts, they often go through a number of rewrites and even suggestions from the network before making it to the air.”

Of course, the TVD writers room is about as top secret as the CIA, so don’t expect anything too spoilery to get leaked too soon. That said, keep checkin’ back for all the latest scoop, because you know we’ll be on top of it!
