1. You know those actors who have stories of being “discovered” and rescued from obscurity? Well, Nina’s one of them, as she was discovered by an agent while studying at the Armstrong Acting Studio in Toronto.
2. When auditioning for the role of Elena, Nina had to tape her scenes due to a scheduling conflict. But she still booked the role and beat out other potential hopefuls — including Jessica Simpson’s little sister, Ashlee Simpson.
3. Everyone has people they admire and, for Nina, those people include child rights advocate Craig Kielburger and actresses Meryl Streep and Rachel McAdams.
4. We may only hear Nina speak English on Vampire Diaries, but she’s also fluent in French and Bulgarian — which might have something to do with the fact that she was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, and later moved to Canada.
