Ian Somerhalder Leaves ‘The Vampire Diaries’? Nina Dobrev to Blame?

“The Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder hinted that season seven may be the last time he will play the vampire character Damon Salvatore in the CW hit series.
In the past days, Somerhalder shared on his official Instagram account several photos that seem to reference his past and future in “TVD”.
In one photo, the actor posted a screenshot of top television shows in which “The Vampire Diaries” season 1 was on the lead, beating “Lost” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Ian captioned the photo, “The good old days… Look what was #1!!!!! Thank you for 6 years on the air!!!” At that time, the CW series was deemed as the number one drama series on TV, yibada.com noted.
The posts received emotional reactions from his fans. Some speculated that the nostalgic post could indicate that Somerhalder is now moving on and may pursue other acting opportunities.
Ian also posted a cryptic close-up snap of his eyes and captioned it, “Looking into the future … Love Ian.”
Fans speculate that it is possible that Ian’s character Damon will be killed off from the show since former lover Nina Dobrev’s character Elena Gilbert no longer has an active role in the series.
Somerhalder’s posts came amid rumors that Dobrev had refused to return to “TVD“.
Dobrev left the show in season six allegedly because of Somerhalder’s relationship with his now wife, Nikki Reed.
In the previous season, Elena has been kept alive after Kai cast a sleeping spell on her and linking her life with Bonnie in such a way that Elena would only wake up when Bonnie died. This means Dobrev could come back to the series since her character could be back from her deep sleep anytime.
However, Nina does not seem to be interested in returning to “TVD” and get tangled with Somerhalder and Reed’s relationship.
Ian also posted a throwback photo of himself as Damon Salvatore from season 1.
Yibada.com noted that “The Vampire Diaries” executive producers Julie Plec and Caroline Dries earlier confirmed that season 7 will be very similar to season 1, particularly in terms of Damon’s attitude and personality.
The seventh season of “The Vampire Diaries” will premiere on CW this October.
